Ever Nearer

The warmth of the sun caresses bare shoulders,
The wind playing games in flowing hair,
A cloudless sky reflects beautiful eyes,
A fawn dancing among fallen leaves.

White sand squeezes up through toes
escaping the sole of her feet.
Watching I weep,
such beauty stirs my soul.

The sound of waves echoes through the air,
A slow beat on harmonious drums
dictating the crawl of time.

Approaching, ever nearer, my own
heart pulsates faster
until my ears fill with the
sound of a leaky facet,
out of control.

Ever nearer, my pores open
and my skin glistens,
a shiver runs up my spine.

Ever nearer, my hands quiver
with the anticipation
of finally finding a bride.

Ever nearer, I feel faint
as butterflies
take wing inside me.

Ever nearer, I stumble over a wedge
in the sand, frantically
my fingers try to find an edge.

Ever nearer, my hands work to uncover a tiny wooden shell,
a box inlaid with flowers
nestles on my lap.

Ever nearer, I open the light lid and
cannot believe my own eyes,
light escapes a beautiful gem.
Around it turns, displaying its beauty
from within.

Is this what I'm meant to find?
